Our Sustainable Path: Wool the Old Way, for a Better Tomorrow

We are a small, family-oriented studio, and everything we do starts with respect – for  nature, for our animals, and for the people who wear our pieces. Our work with pure virgin wool follows traditional methods that have been passed down through generations, adapted with care to today’s idea of sustainability.

Gently Grown, Naturally Renewed

Wool is a renewable, biodegradable fibre, and we treat it as the gift it is. We work with small local herds where sheep graze freely on clean, open pastures. Their wellbeing comes first: gentle seasonal shearing, no harsh chemicals, and everyday care that keeps stress low and health high.

By avoiding intensive farming practices, we help preserve local biodiversity and protect the land we depend on. Healthy pastures mean healthier animals, and in the end, better wool.

Traditional Processing, Minimal Impact

Our wool is washed, carded and woven using methods designed to keep the fibre as close to its natural state as possible. We minimise the use of chemicals, choose biodegradable soaps where needed, and work in small batches to reduce water and energy consumption.

The weaving itself is slow and intentional. Each blanket, coat or bag is made on traditional looms, by hands that know the rhythm of the craft. This slower pace is not just romantic – it means less waste, better quality control and pieces that are made to last, not to be replaced.

Natural Colours, Thoughtful Dyes

Some of our blankets are zero-dyed: they keep the quiet beauty of wool exactly as it comes from the sheep, in shades of cream, grey and brown. These colours are not created – they are simply chosen and gently cleaned, which means fewer processes, less water, and no added substances at all. We like to think of them as wool in its most honest form.

For our dyed blankets, including our multistripe tradition inspired pieces, we follow the same slow philosophy. Historically, the iconic green, red, yellow and deep blue stripes were achieved with colourfast dyes chosen for strength and durability, often using rich blues from indigo and strong reds and yellows from trade dyestuffs that could withstand harsh northern climates and frequent use.

In our studio, we translate that heritage into a more gentle, modern practice. We work in small dye baths, using natural or low-impact dyes selected for wool, and we carefully control temperature and time so the fibres are not stressed. Whenever possible, we turn to traditional natural dye sources – like plant-based yellows and blues – and use only those of the classic wool mordanting methods that are harmless to the wool, skin and with zero-waste for nature. These help the colours bond and last, reducing the need for harsh fixatives.

The result is colour that feels both rooted in history and respectful of today’s environmental concerns: strong enough to live with you for years, gentle enough to sit comfortably within our commitment to responsible, small-scale production.

Supporting Family, Flock and Community

Every piece we create supports more than our studio. It supports our family, the shepherds we collaborate with, and the local craftspeople who help us preserve know-how that might otherwise be lost. We choose local whenever possible – from wool to workmanship – to keep value within our town and to maintain a living connection between land, animals and people.

Slow Fashion, Long-Lived Pieces

We are holding on to timeless, functional, and repairable design. Call it slow fashion or just our personal stand against the fast consumer plastic tasteless that is flooding our lifestyle and homes. Pure wool naturally resists odours, regulates temperature and ages beautifully, which means you can wear and use our pieces for many years. Choosing one well-made wool item instead of several disposable ones is a quiet but powerful act of sustainability.

By investing in our work, you become part of this circle – helping us care for our sheep, support our community, and keep a gentle, traditional way of making alive.
